It’s December and that means that 2020 has FINALLY almost come to an end. I don’t know about you, but this past year has kicked my butt. 2020, I’m officially breaking up with you, it’s time to move on. And what better way to move on than to look to the future and set some goals for the new year? I’m ready! What about you?
I don’t care what anyone says. I love New Year’s resolutions. For me, the new year is the perfect time for reflection and strategising! In this post, I’ll show you exactly the methods I use to look back on my past year’s successes and points for improvement, and also how I like to set goals for the new year in a way to help me actually accomplish them!

A Moment to Reflect.
Of course, thinking about the future is very important when it comes to setting goals. However, there’s one VERY crucial step we need to take before we get to that.
Grab your new Goal Setting Planner and really take a moment to reflect on your past year. I recommend you go to a quiet space and block out about 30 minutes of your time to work on this goal setting exercise. Visualisation plays a huge role in setting goals the right way, and that just can’t be done when you’re being distracted.
I know 2020 has been a tough year on all of us, but I want you to start by thinking about your 3 BIGGEST successes! They don’t need to be placed in order, and they can be both personal and professional accomplishments! It’s SO important to take a moment to be grateful for all the good things that have happened to you, especially in a year like this where it’s sometimes easy to forget they even happened at all.
Now that we’ve thought about your successes, let’s look at 3 aspects of your life that could still use a little improvement. Don’t be too hard on yourself here! When you’re able to recognise things for you to improve on, you’re already halfway there. That’s what this exercise is for! Again, these 3 things can be both personal and professional.
All there’s left to do now, is to add your favourite inspirational quote in the box! A little tip: Check out my Instagram page @ReneeHalfway, I post new quotes regularly!
Amazing! You’re all done with the first part of the Goal Setting Planner! Let’s move on to the next phase.
Setting Goals for Success.
It’s time to take a moment to think about your 3 biggest goals for 2021. They can be both personal and professional. Another option is to duplicate slide number 2 and choose 3 personal goals and 3 professional goals. (This is what I personally like to do).
I fully believe that there’s no such thing as dreaming too big. However, when it comes to setting REALISTIC goals for your next year, it’s important not to put too much pressure on yourself.
This is why so many people don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions anymore. They get extremely motivated and set goals that are too big, OR they set too many goals to be able to accomplish them all. This new way of setting goals will keep that from happening to make sure you stay motivated all year long!
Quick tip: I know that many of us set goals about increasing productivity. (Which is definitely a great goal!) If you’re the same, check out these posts to get you started!
You’ve officially come up with your new goals for 2021, amazing! This final step is going to make the difference between failing and succeeding. Setting a goal without a clear course of action will make it so much harder to actually accomplish that goal.
“A goal without a clear course of action is a fantasy.”
On the last page of your Goal Setting Planner, write down 3 actions you MUST take in order to reach your specific goal. This will make it so much easier for you to stay on a clear path towards reaching your goals!
Calendar blocking is a great way to keep track of your tasks AND precious time. Incorporating this time management method is a great first step to being more organised in 2021! Check out my Ultimate Guide to Calendar Blocking to learn how to use it!
That Concludes my exercises to Setting Goals!
Now that you’ve finished working on the Goal Setting Planner, you’re on your way to success in 2021! This method WILL make you unstoppable when it comes to accomplishing all of your goals!
